Cannery Specialist?!

Seriously that is what my new calling is! The whole Relief Society Presidency was released and cannery specialist is my new calling. I am actually pretty excited to learn more about home food storage and how the cannery works but... I really do not know where to start! How do I get ward members motivated to participate and excited themselves about canning? Does anyone have any suggestions or handouts or websites? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I LOVE the cannery! The ladies in our ward go once a month, it's open to who ever can come, and we have a blast going. We swap watching each others kids so that everyone can go, and we also post recipies on our ward RS blog from time to time using 'food storage' items. I am a wheat convert now! I finally got a wheat grinder this year, and now make all our bread and such-it's great! Good luck with your new calling!

Every Sunday the specialist passes around the list of items people can order and then collects the checks at the end of the month. This just keeps it fresh on everyone's mind. She also takes some time every week to go through advertsiments and emails out a "great buys" email to whomever wants it about places to go to get good deals on food storage type stuff. Lastly, have you seen that list of stuff that is for the year, but just one item a week? It breaks the overwhelmingness down a bit. Call me.
